Explore Japanese green tea styles

Sencha

Sencha is a popular Japanese green tea with fresh, clean and savoury flavours. It is a versatile style for everyday drinking.

Gyokuro

Gyokuro is a carefully produced Japanese green tea with a rich, deep and savoury character. It is suited to tea drinkers looking for a more considered experience.

Genmaicha

Genmaicha combines green tea with roasted rice to create a distinctive nutty, toasted and comforting flavour.

Matcha

Matcha is finely ground Japanese green tea powder. Explore our matcha collection for teas suitable for traditional whisking, lattes and other preparations.

How to choose Japanese green tea

Choose Sencha if you prefer a fresh and balanced cup, Genmaicha if you enjoy roasted and nutty flavours, or Gyokuro if you are looking for a richer umami experience. Matcha is the right choice if you want to whisk the tea into water rather than steep whole leaves.

Review the individual product page for the tea’s flavour notes, origin, brewing temperature and steeping time.

How to brew Japanese green tea

Japanese green tea is generally best prepared with water below boiling point. Cooler water can help preserve the tea’s fresh flavour and reduce bitterness. Follow the product-specific brewing guidance, as the recommended temperature and steeping time vary between styles.

Many Japanese green teas can be infused more than once. Later infusions may reveal different aromas and flavours as the leaves open.
