Are the pyramid teabags home compostable?

Our pyramid teabags, including tag and string, are made from polylactic acid (PLA) and are biodegradable. The PLA material we use is derived from corn starch and does not contain any polypropylene. PLA products will degrade into CO2 and water over time and are especially suited to commercial composting facilities. For home composting, the heat level required may not be achieved in the composting process and they will take longer to degrade quickly enough so not so suitable for most home composting environments. The best environmental solution is to use loose leaf tea when you can and use the teabags when convenience is required, we would recommend this approach.
